Morning all,

Now that things seem to be settling down, and life is good, the phone
companies are throwing us a curve.

Ameritech has sent their customers a notice that effective December
1, 2001, ALL callers in the 419 & 567 areas MUST dial all 10 digits
when making a local call. For example, my phone number is (419)
872-7421. If I call my neighbor, I'll have to dial 4198742235.
8742235 will no longer be allowed. To make things more interesting,
the actual implementation of this requirement will happen over the
week following December 1. So, not all areas will be affected at the
same time. Let me give you the exact language of the notice from
Ameritech:

"The requirement to dial all 10 digits to make a local call begins
December 1, 2001. This means that all callers in the 419 & 567 areas
MUST dial 10 digits for all local calls that time. The elimination
of 7-digit dialing will take approximately one week to complete.
Until the conversion is complete, customers may experience different
dialing patterns from different locations."

Soooooo, we'll need to notify our user base. I'm assuming that
Verizon, Sprint, etc. customers will be affected the same way.
Apparently, 10 digit dialing in by all phone companies in the 419
area is required. I'll be putting together an e-mail to the user
base and plan to send it out no earlier than Thursday and no later
than Friday. Ideas, comments, suggestions would be greatly
appreciated.

I am planning on making the full text of the mailing available for
posting on the web.

Also, all our forms and pages that reference the phone number should
be changed, as soon as possible.

Finally, we should have a Tech meeting very soon. Please see the
following e-mail about that.

Terry
